Brief Book Reviews

1.              Understanding Homeopathy, Homeopathic Understanding: Julian Carlyon

A modern homeopathic philosophy book, Carlyon, an experienced British homeopath, integrates homeopathic philosophy with Jungian and Transpersonal Psychology.  A good attempt to incorporate modern psychology and traditional homeopathic philosophy.

2.              Birds: Homeopathic Remedies form the Avian Realm: Jonathen Shore, Judy Schriebman and Anneke Hogeland.

A detailed introduction into the provings and clinical pictures of a number of bird remedies.  A great way to introduce oneself to this realm of remedies, although some of the information is difficult to extract and to differentiate the various bird remedy pictures and the provings are mainly only the trituration type, not full Hahnemannian provings.

3.              The World Traveller’s Manual of Homeopathy: Dr Colin Lessell

An extremely detailed and well researched book into the possibilities of Homeopathy for many health afflictions when on the road.  Excellent background material into various diseases and even the quality of water in various world regions.  The remedy suggestions are reasonable but probably other homeopaths would have different ideas.

4.              The Homeopathic Treatment of Influenza: Sandra Perko

A new edition of this excellent book, with updated information on the avian flu virus.  It documents the use of Homeopathy in the 1918 flu pandemic, outlines the major remedies used and describes what happened at that time.  Essential reading as a background to understanding the potential risks of a new pandemic and what homeopathy may be able to offer.

5.              The AIDS Miasm: Peter Fraser

A brilliant philosophical exploration of the evolution of miasms, leading to a theory of an AIDS miasm.  The second part of the book explores the main themes of the AIDS miasm and suggests both new and old remedies that may be useful for conditions he identifies within this miasm.

6.              Homeopathy in Reflexive Perspective: Frans Maan

One of the most esoteric books on homeopathy yet.  An attempt to synthesize the ideas of Jungian typology, the Astrological Zodiac, Personality Psychology to modern homeopathic thinking of practitioners such as Rajan Sankaran and Jan Scholten, and based on the theories of famed thinker Arthur Young and his Theory of Process.  For those of you frozen in for the winter in northern tundra zones, the perfect book.

7.              Signatures, Miasms, AIDS: Misha Norland.

A summation of the well-known author’s philosophy and experience in understanding the broader philosophical and spiritual significance of miasmatic thinking, homeopathic healing in general and his work in exploring the themes of an AIDS miasm.

8.              The Second Simillimum: Peter Chappell

A philosophical and practical exploration of finding signature “homeopathic” frequencies that match the vibration of AIDS and other diseases.   Based on his work in Africa, the author decided to look for an “energetic genus epidemicus” to cover the symptom picture of AIDS, to identify one remedy for all people.  First he established a metaphysical likeness of the complete picture of AIDS and then transformed this energy through electrical coils to create a “simillimum” energy which was then succussed according to standard homeopathic protocol.  Highly controversial, yet fascinating reading.  Be prepared to be challenged.

9.              The Sensation in Homeopathy: Rajan Sankaran

The latest book by Sankaran explains his ideas on getting to the vital sensation in cases and gives examples of case-taking techniques and case-analysis to show his thinking.  Better edited than previous volumes, this is an important book to understand where Sankaran is going.
