Editorial: The Issue of Vaccination and Prophylaxis
By Richard Pitt
I would like to thank Kate Birch and all the contributors for this edition of the California Homeopath. The subject of homeoprophylaxis (HP) is an important one, not just for homeopaths and other natural health advocates but potentially for millions of people as it addresses questions on the whole issue of vaccination across the world.
As we know vaccines are a central part of disease prevention for every government, as well as NGO’s throughout the world seeking to prevent many of the most significant infectious diseases. Vaccines hold a virtual mythological hold on the public imagination in terms of their apparent beneficial effects and how they have eradicated virulent diseases such as smallpox and polio, but for those who question the total orthodoxy of belief around vaccines, there are many questions that still remain to be answered. These questions are only growing as the inexorable increase in the number of vaccines being given to children today makes their impact all the more possibly damaging, both in the short term acute effects and long term health consequences for the most vulnerable of the population – our children.

Keywords: Changing the vaccine paradigm, Homeoprophylaxis, Disease as intelligent beings.
It is with great pleasure that I offer this montage of papers on the subject of infectious disease and homeopathic prevention and treatment methods to the homeopathic community.
Once we may have thought that vaccinations and antibiotics were a god-send. However the questionable safety of the vaccine method, and the subsequent overlook of the possibility that infectious disease may actually serve a purpose to health and human evolution brings to bear a multitude of questions and concerns.

The Beneficial Role of Acute Disease

The bulk of this short article is an excerpt from The Solution ~ Homeoprophylaxis the Vaccine Alternative, written by Kate Birch and Cilla Whatcott. The basic premise of all holistic thinking is that we do not exist in isolation and that all things have a purpose in the grand scheme of things. The idea that humans have in thinking that they can eradicate disease by the use of vaccines and antibiotics is irrational and implausible. For as long as there are imbalances in the way humans live in their bodies and the way they live on this planet there will always be the need for infectious disease to help set us straight.

Malaria Prevention in Africa

When in this article I use the term ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’ I am referring to all the wonderful people that make ‘our’ work in Africa possible, starting with Peter Chappell who initiated it all, the volunteers of ARHF (Amma Resonance Healing Foundation) and the many partners, colleagues and friends in Africa that joined us in our goal to treat and prevent disease and relieve trauma in Africa. Without them and without our sponsors this work could not be done and this article could not have been written.

HP Through a Known Outbreak of Whooping Cough
by Kelly Callahan, CCH, Maine USA
Keywords: Disease outbreak, Additional doses, Whooping cough
The issues of reliability and ‘protection’ are the main concerns of parents who seek out HP. We can share clinical evidence going back to Hahnemann of individuals who did not contract disease during an outbreak when treated prophylactically. Isaac Golden’s books: The Complete Practitioner’s Manual of Homeoprophylaxis, and Vaccination and Homeoprophylaxis: A Review of Risks and Alternatives 7th edition, are imperative reading for practitioners. In these works Golden provides essential data for parents seeking hard evidence. Yet even with this clinical evidence of efficacy, it is important to communicate with parents that no method of immunization is 100%, and that extra steps may also be required when choosing HP during a local outbreak.

Thesis on the Essence of Infectious Diseases and Pathogens
by Torako Yui, Ph.D.Hom, Tokyo, Japan
We are surrounded by countless microbes - bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. But pathogens, or agents which can infect and do bad things to humans, are only a few among them. We have to think why one could be pathogenic and the other could not be?
Pathogens originally have a principle, called ‘species specificity.’ That is, pigs are infected only from pigs, chickens infected only from chickens and humans infected only from humans. It is a fundamental principle that pathogens which infect pigs do not infect chickens or humans; and visa versa, pathogens which infect humans do not infect pigs or chickens. The much-hyped new strain of influenza, H1N1 in 2009 was initially influenza in pigs (swine flu). However, it was originally impossible that humans could contract influenza from pigs..
This article explores these questions of species specificity, susceptibility and miasms. And further contemplates the potential animalization of humans through vaccines.

What do you do?
After becoming a homeopath, you start to understand the level of confusion people have about what is a homeopath. Anyone with an audience can add confusion to the answer to this question. The following series of emails and events point to this as a problem within a problem for homeopathy on a larger scale. While reading about the following, please consider whether the professional community of homeopathy is capable of putting forward a unified professional identity?

Homeopathic Prophylaxis, Science or Fiction, and its Relevance for a New Flu Epidemic
By Richard Pitt
Homeopathic Prophylaxis, Science or Fiction, and its Relevance for a New Flu Epidemic.
Keywords: Variolation, Susceptibility, Morphogenetic field, Collective consciousness, Influenza,
The question of the effectiveness of homeopathy as a prophylactic treatment has been debated since the beginning of homeopathy. Hahnemann himself advocated it and even tried to market Belladonna as a specific prophylaxis and treatment for scarlet fever, with mixed results. The most documented effectiveness of homeopathic prophylaxis perhaps is in the use of Variolinum against smallpox. Historically, way before Edward Jenner created the smallpox vaccination with attenuated cowpox, various cultures had performed a form of inoculation called variolation in which a small amount of infectious material was put under the skin and which prevented serious consequences of the disease. This was performed mainly in the Middle East but did spread to Europe, even amongst the Royalty of England. The use of the homeopathic remedy Variolinum (and also Malandrinum and Vaccinium) showed that it helped prevent people getting the disease and also prevented fatalities in those that did acquire smallpox.

Speaking with Parents about Homeoprophylaxis
by Cilla Whatcott, HD RHom, CCH, PhD, Minnesota USA
Keywords: Homeoprophylaxis, Choice, Mandated vaccines, Media, Cell-mediated immunity.
Parents are wondering how much choice they have when it comes to making health decisions for their children. Are there other choices that may not follow the traditional vaccination schedule to protect children from various diseases? Can parent be more self-reliant with healthcare for their families? As homeopaths we can certainly shed light on this topic.
These questions reflect the minds of independent thinkers. Independent thinking requires critical observation. We must look below the surface! As homeopaths we tend to be independent and out-of-the-box thinkers to begin with. Parents appreciate the input we have to offer. Parents can learn from us how to look deeper.

Homeoprophylaxis: A World Wide Choice
Homeoprophylaxis, a World Wide Choice: Conference review
By Sally Tamplin, Beth Knudsen Spears and Kate Birch
Early October 2015 doctors, researchers, lawyers, educators, homeopaths, naturopaths, and parents gathered in Lewisville, Texas for a two and a half day conference on the subject of health, the immune system, disease prevention models, the issues of vaccination and the benefits of homeoprophylaxis. Organized by Cilla Whatcott and Cathy Lemmon, and sponsored by the Texas Society of Homeopaths, this conference brought educators and leaders from around the world to share with us the breadth of possibilities in the application and successes of homeoprophylaxis for disease prevention and the risks and pitfalls of the current vaccine paradigm.

EBOLA Rears Its Head Again!

Ebola has been classified as one of the world’s most deadly diseases. It was on everyone’s radar as it took center stage upon the world health platform during 2014 and until early 2015, then the world began to see fewer outbreaks in West Africa and less reporting in the media. The virus is fragile and breaks down within hours or days if it is not actively replicating. It is spread between humans through direct contact with infected blood, bodily fluids or organs. As of early October 2015, 11,312 people have died of the disease. The World Health Organization says that people have a 50/50 chance of survival. There are currently no vaccines although some are being tested. Experimental drugs have been used on some of those who have been very ill with the disease, they have saved some but not everyone. Ebola patients are generally discharged from medical care once the virus can no longer be detected in the blood.

Questionnaire Survey on Homoeoprophylaxis
By Toroko Yui, Toklyo Japan
Survey compiled by JPHMA
In Japan, vaccinations have been conducted for over 160 years. Vaccinations were compulsory in Japan for about 50 years between 1948 and 1994, but many children who were inoculated MMR died or become paralyzed and the government was sued by Japanese nationals. The MMR was stopped in 1993. In 1994 to vaccinate was changed from ‘compulsory’ to ‘encouraged’.
However, the social phenomenon that inoculation is taken as a matter of course has not been changed and it is the fact that there are many parents who do not have questions about the risks. People who use homoeopathy in their daily life, often hear the information of harmful effects from inoculation which the media does not reveal.

Drug Action of Nosodes Given in the Homeoprophylaxis Program

Some people think that when you give a vaccine there should not be any observable immunological response. The CDC only references those responses that occur in the first 24-48 hours of injection but dismisses these as mild unwanted side effects. The common responses they report are fever, redness and swelling at sight of injection, sleepiness, and lack of appetite. Other ‘rare’ side effects they list include syncope, anaphylaxis, fever of 105°F, seizures and possible death, etc. They claim these responses are rare. They have no long-term health responses listed in any vaccine chart (for better or worse), nor publication of any long-term health analysis of vaccinated children correlating the health history of the child, number or type of vaccines given, or the age of the child. The only parameter that is ever monitored is whether a child produces antibodies and how many doses it takes to get antibodies. If antibodies are produced then we are satisfied that the vaccine has done its job and the child is now immune. There is no research investigating the cost to the overall health of the child as a result the artificially forced production of antibodies.
