Most of the articles in this edition are given to exploring Lyme disease. One of the books reviewed is a great resource for studying the disease. Healing Lyme Disease Naturally, by Wolf Storl is a great study and philosophical enquiry into Lyme disease and the nature of illness in general and introduces us to the use of teasel as a great herbal medicine. Wolf explores both the broader miasmatic foundation of Lyme disease, showing a great homeopathic knowledge and then looks at the many herbal medicine possibilities that can be used as treatment. For homeopaths, this can be very useful information as an adjunct to homeopathic remedies. Treating Lyme disease is not always easy. When seeing patients with serious chronic symptoms of Lyme, looking at constitutional remedies is complicated and even identifying it as Lyme disease is not easy. Therefore, studying and understanding this disease is very important for homeopaths.

This is a chronic case of Lyme Disease with a clear etiology and a classic symptom picture, developing from the initial bite and infection and even after treatment with antibiotics, the development of secondary chronic conditions.

The initial episode also coincided with difficulties she had in relationship and the issue of her boundaries and self-identity therefore becomes a key psychological feature in the case as it progressed.

For most homeopaths, a complete case taking requires a detailed overview of the most significant experiences in life, beginning with pregnancy and birth and from there getting all the details of both physical and mental traumas that may impact a person’s life. This can stem from a never been well since an illness (NBWS), whether it is measles, whooping cough or any particular condition, to any emotional trauma, e.g. physical or mental abuse, history of abandonment, grief, shock, fear, loss, violence etc, or  other physical trauma, whether at birth or later. Ideally, the complete picture of etiology and underlying susceptibility is taken together and a remedy found to cover the complete picture.

She has made a fascinating and successful attempt to cover a lot of material in a practical, easy  and accessible format. Instead of presenting material in a more linear and segmented way she weaves it all together into a more cohesive whole.  The whole style of the book is friendly and informal, which makes it very accessible.

He is using the study of Lyme disease to look at broader topics of healing and is well versed in many holistic paradigms, including homeopathy. His study into various Western and Chinese herbal medicines also adds another dimension to the study.
