Editorial
By Richard Pitt
We are happy to present the 2nd edition of the California Homeopath as part of our goal of producing four editions a year, beginning in 2013. As editor of the journal, I am very interested for us to expand the numbers of homeopaths who would like to contribute to the journal so please do consider writing articles on any subject pertinent to homeopathy. Our vision for the journal is for it to be a broad exploration of homeopathy and allied subjects, anything pertaining to the world of natural medicine, and to bring together homeopaths and healers from all over the globe.

President’s Message
by Dr. Stuart H. Garber
The new President of the CHMS describes his main goal , first and foremost, would be to increase membership in the Society, as there is a certain strength that can only be found in numbers. A strong state organization can unify all of the different types of practitioners, regardless of license type or practice style, under one umbrella. Inclusion rather than exclusion will be our modus operandi.
Additionally, he felt all professional organizations must have a political agenda in order to serve its membership more fully, something the CHMS has not, at least in recent years, been identified with. We can use the power of the group to effect changes at the state level that will positively impact both the profession and the public. To this end he would like to see the implementation of a new position on the Board of Directors, that of Government Liaison.

21st Century Medicine: Four years using the Candegabe Algorithm in Practice
by Robert Bannan, LCH, LCCH
The author discusses the use of the Candegabe algorithm in practice. It works by translating the personal information of the patient (names, date of birth, etc.) into a numero-phonetic code using the international phonetic alphabet. It then compares the patient code to the numero-phonetic codes of the names of the remedies in the homeopathic materia medica. After comparative processing the algorithm gives a read-out chart listing the remedies that correspond to the patient’s personal information. This read-out typically contains somewhere between 30 to 40 remedies which are graded as follows: to their correspondence to the name; to the kingdom they belong to; and to consonant and key remedy parameters.

The God Question and its Relationship to Homeopathy
by Richard Pitt
The influence of the modern scientific paradigm in our society and in medicine in particular has led to challenges on the position of traditional religion and also on the validity of homeopathy and other holistic forms of healing. This is part of a larger struggle between secular, materialistic philosophies, and religious/spiritual philosophies and homeopathy has found itself, again, stuck in the middle and especially in the U.K. has found itself under much scrutiny and attack. This article explores some of the philosophical and political influences that have led to this situation, ideally clarifying the position of homeopathy and its role in integrating spiritual and scientific ideals.
Keywords: God, Religion, Secularism, Materialism, The Enlightenment, Reason, Fundamentalism, Homeopathy, Holism.

Creating Sustainable Homeopathic Education in Ghana: Reflections and lessons learnt from the Ghana Homeopathy Project and sharing knowledge across cultures and continents
By Linda Shannon and Jane Parkin
In this article, the authors describe the development of homeopathic education in Ghana. “To create a sustainable homeopathic project in Africa it takes time and patience. Sometimes the expectations from all sides can be unrealistically high. Our approach is to slowly increase our pool of 'project wisdom' through learning and reflecting on each experience: what works and what doesn't. There are now several wonderful projects developing across Africa and all of them have found that same fertile soil for homeopathy to slowly grow, as in India. Each one has developed in its own unique way and encountered its own challenges along that path.”

The Bay Area Homeopathy Association, affectionately known as BAHA
by Kathleen Scheible, CCH
The author is the founder of the Bay Area Homeopathy Association and this article describes how it came to be formed. From the outset, the motivation was to create a networking group of homeopaths in the San Francisco Bay Area, pure and simple – with the idea that we all have more to gain from knowing each other, strengthening the profession, and spreading the word about homeopathy so that more people may benefit from our great healing modality.

A Book Review: Homeopathy for Diseases- By Peter Chappell and Harry van der Zee
by Richard Pitt
In this book, the authors are proposing two main ideas. The first is the concept that many diseases are not really individual or unique in nature to one person, but are part of a collective experience that would be experienced very similarly in other people. Like an epidemic disease, there is a clearly definable image of that disease. Often this disease stems from an original trauma, even generations back, which is then expressed in the person both physically and psychologically. If passed on through generations, this original trauma may express itself in more “chronic” ways, but by identifying the trauma can be still treated as if an epidemic type of disease. The second is that it is possible to find a “resonance” that can identify the trauma and all of its consequent effects through the method described which can then be given to all people with that particular trauma or disease, or where a history of that disease existed.

A Book Review: Your Natural Medicine Cabinet by Begabati (Burke) Lennihan RN, CCH
by Richard Pitt
The author has taken the model she developed for her first book and expanded it considerably in the 2nd book, doing an excellent job in empowering people to take more control of their health. She weaves homeopathy into a broad scope of natural healing options and helps to demystify it for those interested in finding out more. She writes in a very appealing style and this book is an excellent contribution to one’s homeopathic library and a perfect book to have available in one’s clinic.
